Death Skull Embroidery
The
skull is a literary composition in traditional verse in Mexico. Usually they
are written on the eve of the Day of the Dead.
Formerly
known as pantheons, these verses were born in the nineteenth century as a
farcical epitaph and as a way to express ideas or feelings that other
opportunities would be difficult decir, were often censored or destroyed

politicians época, the first skulls were published in 1879 in the newspaper
El Socialista, of Guadalajara.
The
drawings that accompany the verses are known by the name of La Calavera Catrina
or Garbancera, 4 figure created by Jose Guadalupe Posada and baptized by the
muralist Diego Rivera.5
