Lightning McQueen, usually called by name Ryan is a fictional character from the movie Cars, a car racing obsessed with winning what he considers the biggest goal of his life, Piston Cup.

It is a race car, made of carbon fiber, rookie whose best hope is to win the Piston Cup and finish in the team Dinoco sponsorship. At first it is very thought of himself and only cares about running, but then sees the importance of family unity and eventually decides to stay with Radiator Springs. It is backed by Rust-eze and in love with Sally. His name is a tribute to director and supervising animator Glenn McQueen as well as an indirect tribute to Steve McQueen movie Le Mans. It is a Chevrolet Corvette C5.R because the opening song is understood to be a Chevrolet. Their motto is "fly which rocket attack as bolide" (in Spain) "light as a motorcycle, how powerful a truck".

Lightning McQueen design is based on Toyota NASCAR vehicles, but with influences Mazda Miata design and Dodge Viper. Later in the film, you receive a job similar to the Chevrolet Corvette C1 painting. Usually wears a red paint job, always with designs rays as decoration. The number 95 is in reference to the year that the first animated film from Pixar (Toy Story) was released. At the beginning of the movie Cars, Lightning McQueen is a talented but arrogant and egotistical corridor, which aspires to become the first rookie to win the Piston Cup trophy and sponsorship lucrative Dinoco team. As the days while serving his sentence, he begins to form friendships with village residents, particularly with a rusty crane called Mate, and develops some attraction to Sally. During his stay discovers that years ago Radiator Springs was a popular stop for travelers on Route 66, but with the construction of an interstate that isolated the people and saved them 10 minutes walk, the small town was wiped off the map, and many of its residents closed their businesses and left. McQueen also discovers that Doc Hudson is actually the Fabulous Hudson Hornet a racing legend who won three Cups Piston, but had a premature withdrawal because of an accident that ended his days in racing and is resented it, refusing train him coldly when prompted. The film ends with Ray and Sally running toward Flo Coffee and Mate flying in the helicopter Dinoco (as McQueen had previously promised).
