BB-8 is a droid Star
Wars saga, which first appeared in the 2015 film, Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
BB-8 is a real robotic remote control unit.
In August 2013, the
cinematographer of The Force Awakens, Daniel Mindel and director of Episode
VIII, Rian Johnson, stated that the director of The Force Awakens, JJ Abrams
would use few computer-generated imagery (CGI) and would use more traditional
special effects to recreate the visual realism and authenticity of the original
Star Wars.1 March 2 to this end, the droid BB-8 was a physical support
developed by Disney Research, 4 created by special effects artist Neal Scanlan
and operated live on set with performers. to take pictures, several BB-8 models
were built. The highlight was controlled by puppeteers Dave Chapman and Brian
Herring puppet. In addition, there were several units controlled by radio and
some versions of static support. A fully functioning autonomous robotic unit
was not practical for filming, so most of the scenes in which appeared
"walking" were achieved by the puppet with wires removed in
post-production. However, over time a remote control unit was constructed and
used in events promocionales.
Scanlan told
Entertainment Weekly in November 2015 robot design came from an original sketch
of Abrams, saying "It was a very simple sketch, beautiful in its
simplicity of a ball with this small dome on top." BB-8 design
"with panels differently on each side to help the viewer to track movement
with her eyes." Scanlan said "If I had parallel patterns that were
running around the circumference, would be less informative in as for the
direction BB-8 was taking a pattern a bit more chaotic. "9calling the
robot a" Swiss Army knife that should not be trusted, "he said that
although each of the panels BB-8 has a specific purpose, such as a port or
tool, not all of them have been completely defined to leave options for future
films. Abrams also named the robot, telling Entertainment Weekly in August
2015, "I named BB-8 because it was almost onomatopoeia. It was more or
less than what it looked like to me, with 8, obviously, and then two B "
the name was conceived from the start in the production of the film and was one
of the few who never changed.
The voice of BB-8 was
given by comedians Bill Hader and Ben Schwartz, both accredited as
"consultants vocal BB-8" in the film. The voice was created by Abrams
manipulating their voices through a talkbox, coupled with an iPad running an
application effects sonido.
