In the realm of Atlantic, mermaids and mermen live happily in a world full of music, can come to the surface to play when wished. King Triton lives with his beloved wife happy, Queen Athena and her seven daughters. The day of his birthday, the King gives him the Queen Athena a music box, which when opened plays the song she usually sing their daughters at night. However, suddenly calm was interrupted when the sky darkens and begins a heavy storm. To make matters worse, King sees a whaling ship is approaching, which commands all dipping into the sea. So they spend 10 years after the events. The princesses have grown up and have as a mentor to poison Marina del Rey and his assistant, the dugong Benjamin, who, unlike his love, affection for the princesses (although he does not dare areconocerlo). Marina is obsessed with taking away his position to Sebastian the crab, so he tries to impress the King Triton for promoting it. Ariel does not agree with what his father imposes and finds reason which music is prohibited. So he proposes to do something different, to which King Triton refuses. Ariel takes the opposite ends and punished outside the castle. It is when he meets Flounder, a playful fish that surprises and is fascinated by music, but then are stopped by two guards of the palace. Later in the evening following Flounder to an underground club where the fish are dedicated to making music in secret and Ariel discovers that Sebastian is also there. The next morning his sisters learn what happened and convince Ariel to bring them too. Marina realizes his absence, and go get them, discover the secret club and Sebastian. He sees it as an opportunity to unseat him and will tell the King Triton. The next night, he goes to the secret club, and although some manage to escape orders the guards to bring everyone to prison and seals the entrance to not use the place again. King Sebastian removed from office by replacing Marina and harshly scolds his daughters for disobeying. Ariel indignantly tells his father that that is not what her mother would have wanted and leaves.

Ariel goes to the prison to free the band, Flounder and Sebastian, but they refuse. But Ariel convinces Sebastian saying that the palace is no longer a home without music, crab gives reason and tells you they know where to go. So all prison escape and cross the sea to reach a completely deserted place where Sebastian persuaded to stay. Shortly after Ariel is the music box for 10 years that had belonged to his mother, the queen, Sebastian reveals that was the real reason that brought there and that he should return the box to his father to remember as be happy and bring back the joy and music to Atlantica.

Meanwhile, Marina learns that escaped and freed their beloved pets, eels with electricity power to go by Sebastian and Ariel and annihilated. Marina and eels manage to find the group and attack them. For a moment they did not know to do until Flounder uses his tricks for eels made a knot and so stop them. On the other hand, Sebastian Marina achievement remained stuck in a trunk. And the threat controlled all celebrate happy at the moment the King Triton comes to the place. Marina does not give up so easily, so it takes off everything and nothing trunk floor and quickly made Sebastian to attack again. Ariel gets and receives the blow falling on the sand with Marina. King Triton, Ariel swims guiltily, takes her in his arms and sings for her as did her mother. Ariel regains consciousness and hugs his father who apologizes for his behavior. Thus, all return to the castle and shortly after King Triton proclaims that the music will be heard in Atlantic. So all again they are happy and dance to music.

In the credits you can see Marina dancing with Benjamin, both in prison paying for his crime.
